InTek Logistics continues EPA SmartWay Certification

Written by Kevin Baxter | Aug 18, 2025

InTek Logistics is proud to announce approval of its SmartWay Transport Partnership annual registration. SmartWay is a public-private partnership between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the freight industry - now more than two decades old.

The renewed certification means InTek will keep doing its part in reducing the energy used to move freight - growing overall savings, which currently includes:

  • 397 million barrels of oil
  • 170 million metric tons of CO2
  • The equivalent of annual electricity used to power 26 million homes

"We have long prioritized sustainability and environmentally responsible freight movement," said Rick LaGore, InTek Logistics CEO. "Our continued status as an EPA SmartWay certified partner underlines our commitment. We're proud to keep our long-term partnership going another year. "

Central to InTek's sustainability efforts is its focus on using intermodal transportation whenever possible. Long haul rail is four times more energy efficient than trucks, and an intermodal train carries the equivalent of 280 individual tractor trailers - taking them off the road for both reduced emissions and congestion. If just 10% of long haul highway freight was shipped intermodally in a given year, it would save 12 billion gallons of fuel.

Beyond its own direct efforts to sustainably ship products, InTek is also committed to raising awareness of the environmental impact of freight. Just this year, it launched a Carbon Corridors tool, outlining 10 states with the highest trucking emissions - and intermodal alternatives that would cut that problem down to size.

The SmartWay Transport Partnership is a market-driven initiative that empowers businesses and fleets to drive supply chain efficiency and resiliency, while protecting public health, reducing air pollution, and restoring American energy dominance. With its continued registration, InTek joins other partners in demonstrating strong environmental leadership and corporate responsibility.
