Taking action on intermodal market share: Intermodal Logistics Podcast

Written by Kevin Baxter | Jan 29, 2026

After more than a year on the job as President and CEO of the Intermodal Association of North America (IANA), Anne Reinke stops by The Intermodal Logistics Podcast to look back on her first 12 months - and ahead to how IANA plans to tackle intermodal’s biggest ongoing challenge: increasing market share.

Anne walks us through IANA’s priorities from 2025, including a stronger emphasis on policy advocacy and expanding its role as a trusted source for industry data. She also touches on key developments that shaped intermodal over the past year, from tariffs and the Union Pacific–Norfolk Southern merger announcement to the broader freight market environment.

At the center of the conversation then and now is intermodal market share. With intermodal currently accounting for roughly 5% of domestic freight, Anne discusses the significant opportunity for growth and shares IANA’s  already underway shipper survey - which is aimed at capturing perspectives from both current intermodal users and those who have yet to adopt it. The focus, she notes, isn’t just on awareness or perception, but on driving real action and adoption.

To wrap up, Anne offers a preview of IANA’s annual Intermodal EXPO this September, including a notable guest tied to that high-profile railroad merger.
